3-Barrels of pure value including Tony and Joe Hachem stranded after an opportunist thief steals their stretch limo en route to a charity poker game; partypoker want to prove that anyone can play poker in The Big Bluff Challenge, and CBS Sports Network will air 30-hours of live Super High Roller Bowl action.
An Australian car thief chalked one off his bucket list this week after stealing a Chrysler Superstretch Limousine.
The limo was carrying former 888Poker Ambassador Shane Warne; Australian poker legends Joe and Tony Hachem, and AFL soccer star Brendan Fevola and his wife to a charity poker tournament in aid of the National Breast Cancer Foundation when it made a pit stop at the Fisherman’s Pier restaurant on Geelong’s waterfront outside of Melbourne.
The gang hadn’t even looked at the menu when the driver burst in to tell the celebrities that someone had stolen their ride. Rather comically the driver posted a help message on Facebook in the oft chance someone would spot one of the world’s longest vehicles speeding down the highway.
Nobody did.
Authorities later recovered the limo dumped in a ditch. The owners, The Murrell Group, said the car was beyond repair.
The former AFL star Billy Brownless and cricket legend Shane Warne organised the event. Warne doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to such things. You may remember that the former 888Poker star had to close down his non-profit – The Shane Warne Foundation – after Consumer Affairs Victoria had sent the audit firm KPMG into the charity’s ledgers to investigate alleged financial irregularities that had surfaced in the local press.
PartyPoker Busting Out the Celebrities
Can anyone be taught to play poker?
According to Dusk Till Dawn’s Simon Trumper, the answer is yes – and he’s about to prove it.
Partypoker has announced plans to launch The Big Bluff Challenge. Four celebrities from the world of TV and sport, who have never played poker before, will learn the game from scratch in a bid to become the champion of a charity poker tournament due to be held in July.
Participating in the event is the most decorated World Superbike racer of all time, Carl ‘Foggy’ Fogarty, AFC Wimbledon forward Adebayo ‘The Beast’ Akinfenwa, former Page 3 Girl and TV Presenter Melinda Messenger, and former Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter.
Former Late Night Poker winner Simon Trumper, partypoker Ambassador and former World Boxing Champ, Carl Froch, and a sports psychologist will put the group through their paces. Once buffed and polished the foursome will compete in a £5,000 Grand Final at Brighton’s Amex Stadium. The charity event will run in parallel with the partypoker Grand Prix Poker Tour.
The event takes place July, 24, and the winner will donate their purse to the charity of their choosing.
“I’m too tight to play with my own money so this is a win-win all around,” said Fogarty.
