Billionaire businessman and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban calls FOX Sports pundit Colin Cowherd an ‘idiot’ in defence of the eSports industry.
Poker could do with a Mark Cuban in our corner.
To say the Dallas Mavericks star is a big fan of eSports is an understatement. During the summer, it was revealed that the Shark Tank panellist was part of an investment team that had ploughed $7m into the Seattle start-up Unikrn. Now he is playing the games himself.

That was a shot of Cuban competing in his first competitive League of Legends (LOL) match-up. Granted it was a charity match against a team headed by Intel Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brian Krzanich, but it didn’t stop Cuban going all out for the victory. His team eventually winning with some ease.
The pair was raising money for the Cybersmile Foundation, an organisation created to counter cyber bullying. During the match, Cuban was fined $15,000 for saying ‘fuck’, and when asked what he thought of that after the game he said ‘fuck it let’s double it,’ and passed on over $30,000 to the organisation.
Cuban also had a few harsh words for the FOX Sports Pundit Colin Cowherd. While working for ESPN Cowherd once famously said he would leave the channel if they started covering eSports and called gamers ‘nerds.’ He left ESPN for FOX shortly after.
During his post-match interview Cuban said, ” I love Colin but he is an idiot when it comes to eSports,” before continuing, “This is a real sport and people are going to figure it out really, really quick.”
When asked if Cuban was going to go all-in and purchase an eSports team, he left the interviewer hanging by saying, “you’re going to have to stay tuned.”
If you can’t find an eSports team, Mark, have a word with Alex Dreyfus, he has a few Global Poker League franchises that need buying.
