Three online poker tales from PokerStars to catch up on with news of Russian dominance throughout MicroMillions 11, a Canadian winning the Main Event, and Brazilian poker gets a shot in the arm from the presence of Neymar Jr.
MicroMillions 11 is done and dusted. The Russians dominated, a Canadian picked up the biggest score, and a herd of Brazilians were buoyed by their Barcelona home boy.
100 events were squeezed into a 10-day period in the greatest low buy-in online poker series anywhere in the world. The Russians were the biggest contributors: 161,939 players got involved, they cashed 23,843 times, produced 15 winners and took home a combined prize pool of $777,209.32.
The Germans were the second most successful country with 96,763 entrants, 13,968 cashes and $483,864.83 in prize money, and then there were the boys and girls from Brazil. Fuelled by the PokerStars signing of their home boy Neymar Jr. 81,495 players competed and $423,492.94 was dragged into the economy.
And then there was Canada.
It might not have churned out the impressive numbers worked up by Russia, Germany and Brazil, but it did provide two players at the final table of the $22 buy-in MicroMillions Main Event and one of them – Nolet20 – walked away with the title and $89,854 in prize money.
The event guaranteed $1m in prize money and $111,111 to the winner. 55,524 entrants ensure the guarantee was smashed ($1,110,480) and a five way chop meant the guaranteed $111,111 first prize was watered down slightly. It took 11 hours for the final table to play out. 8,154 players were paid.

That wasn’t the end of the Brazilian action this weekend – not by a long shot. Barcelona and Brazilian football star Neymar Jr donned the PokerStars patch for the first time when he appeared live on Twitch during a specially organized charity home game at the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) on Sunday.
More than 80 players competed in the event, and there were 40 rebuys. That means $100,000 was raised for the Neymar Jr Institute, a charity created by Neymar Jr. to raise money for the underprivileged in Sao Paolo.
