Poker Hall of Fame Nomination Period Opens; Date Cemented For the Chad Brown Memorial Poker TournamentIf you head to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) website, you will be able to cast your vote for the 2015 Poker Hall of Fame.

The way forward is pretty simple. Leave your name, address and various other personal pieces of information, name your nominee, and then leave a detailed reason why you believe they should be inducted into the Class of 2015.

There is a wide range of people to choose from, but there is only one active campaign that is grabbing the attention of the poker community. Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott died of cancer in April, and fellow Late Night Poker champion, and Dusk till Dawn Tournament Director, Simon Trumper, is spearheading a campaign to get Devilfish elected this year.

Trumper has created a series of Devilfish t-shirts, and players will be paying tribute to the former WSOP bracelet winner by wearing them en masse during the Main Event. PokerNews also ran a story backing the Devilfish campaign and included wonderful tributes from the likes of Phil Hellmuth, John Duthie and Victoria Coren Mitchell.

All submissions will be tallied, and the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council will review the top 10. The existing Poker Hall of Fame members (21 of them) and a blue ribbon media panel (generally consisting of 20 people) will choose one or two people to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame during the festivities surrounding the WSOP Main Event final table in November.

A brief reminder of the boxes that Poker Hall of Fame nominees have to tick to get into that coveted club.

• A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition

• Played for high stakes

• Be a minimum of 40 years old at time of nomination

• Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers

• Stood the test of time

• Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

There are currently 48 members of the Poker Hall of Fame, 21 still with us in flesh and bone. Last year Daniel Negreanu and Jack McClelland were selected from the following short list:

• Jennifer Harman

• Humberto Brenes

• Mike Matusow

• Chris Bjorin

• Huck Seed

• Bob Hooks

• Bruno Fitoussi

• Daniel Negreanu

• Ted Forrest

• Jack McClelland

If Devilfish does make the Poker Hall of Fame, he will be the first European player to do so.

Maria Ho to Host the Second Annual Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament

July 2 will mark the one year anniversary of the death of Chad Brown. To commemorate, the poker community, and the T.J. Martell Foundation, will host the second Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament, at Planet Hollywood.

With Vanessa Rousso currently appearing in Big Brother 17, the job of host falls into the capable hands of Maria Ho. The action begins at 6pm with a cocktail reception, and silent auction, and at 7pm there will be a charity poker tournament held to benefit the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer & AIDS Research.

The event costs $200+$40. Each player receives a 3,000 starting stack, a $100 rebuy will give you an additional 1,500 chips, and a $100 add-on will net you 5,000. Blind levels are set at 20-minutes.

“We are very proud of the association with the Chad Brown Memorial Poker Tournament and Planet Hollywood,” said Laura Heatherly, CEO of The T.J. Martell Foundation. “Presently, besides our other cancer research programs, we are supporting cutting-edge sarcoma research at flagship hospitals in the United States. We look forward to the day when we can conquer this devastating disease.”

Not only is the event raising money for a worthy cause, the prizes on offer are something else.

The World Series of Poker, PokerStars, World Poker Tour and Heartland Poker Tour have all donated prizes including WSOP Main Event seats, PCA Main Event seats, and a WPT Five Diamond Poker Classic VIP Experience.
