New Jersey online gambling hits new low in November thanks to Caesars jackpot

new-jersey-millionaire-genie-slotNew Jersey online gambling revenue hit a new low in November, falling 8.4% from the previous month to just $8.7m. The regulated market’s online poker rooms continued to disappoint, earning just $1.87m for the month, down from $2m in October. The casino vertical earned just $6.87m, down from $7.5m, although the casino numbers were skewed by a $1.3m slots jackpot – the single largest payout in the regulated market’s year-long history – won by a woman playing Millionaire Genie on Caesars Interactive Entertainment’s HarrahsCasino.com.

As ever, the Borgata/Bwin.party (and now Pala Interactive) combo earned top marks with a combined $3.36m monthly total, up $120k from October. The gains came via casino, which rose $180k to $2.36m while poker dipped around $50k to $1m. Thanks to the aforementioned jackpot, Caesars Interactive earned just $1.1m in November, with poker down $30k to $880k while casino tumbled from $2.46m to just $221k.

The Tropicana’s casino-only sites earned $2.28m in November, up 15% from October. The Golden Nugget’s online casino offering surged 50% to $1.5m thanks to nine days of earnings from its new platform partner Betfair, who switched over from the now shuttered Trump Plaza on Nov. 21. The Plaza’s last three weeks of hosting Betfair’s online casino operations generated revenue of $539k.

With one full year of regulated online gambling under its belt, New Jersey reported revenue of $119.5m since launching on Nov. 26, 2013. Over three-quarters (75.9%) of this sum came via the casino vertical. Gamblers opened a total of 506,172 accounts with New Jersey-licensed operators over this first year, with new signups rising 5.7% in November. But the market hasn’t posted a monthly revenue gain since August.
