PokerStars have released the 2014 World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP) schedule and it contains 66 events and $40m in guaranteed prize pools.
It’s that time of year again.
The World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP) is back, and that can mean only three things.
From Sep 7 through to Sep 28 sales of colostomy bags are going increase tenfold, electricity bills are going to go through the roof, and you are more likely to see a white lion standing in the queue at Tesco than a poker player.
Partners everywhere can wave bye-bye to a month of rumpy-pumpy as PokerStars put on the greatest online poker spectacle the world has ever seen.
Can you imagine how huge this thing would be if the lawmakers of the USA weren’t acting like a bunch of old Grandma’s? In the words of Dirk Diggler’s co-stars:
“It’s going to get real big, real soon.”
Unlike the Spring Championships of Online Poker (SCOOP) – where there is a three-tiered structure for players of all buy-ins to afford a piece of the action – WCOOP is pretty much reserved for the rich, famous and anyone fortunate enough to get through a million people in a $1 satellite.
Buy-ins range from $109 to $10,300 and PokerStars have guaranteed $40m in prize money, through 66 events, with $10m of that guaranteed for the Main Event. At least $1.5m will be awarded to the winner of that one.
In 2013, the Germans dominated the $5,300 Main Event with four of the nine final table seats housing those driving cars with Vorsprung Durch Technik, and that included the top three who made a deal to take over a million each.
Dan Colman took the $10,300 Heads-Up High Roller title, for $172,500, after beating Martin Finger in the final round, and Alexandre Luneau beat Tridynamo in the heads-up phase of the $10,300 8-Game High Roller for $234,350.
Apart from the 66 WCOOP events, there will also be a leaderboard ranking system with some great prizes.
