Garden State Super Series (GSSS) is the latest online poker series from the minds of PartyPoker, only this time they have reached out to the players for input into the design and layout of the series.
Who makes an online poker tournament a success or failure?
It’s the players of course, and if the inaugural GSSS is going to be a success, it will be the decision to include player’s views on the creation of the tournament schedule that will be key.
A PartyPoker representative has reached out to the New Jersey player pool to cast their eagle eyes over a draft tournament schedule that seems to be a ‘me too’ version of the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP).
The proposed three-tier structure contains 20 different events, including a $200 buy-in Main Event, and $1m in guaranteed prize money. That’s $400,000 more than was offered up in guarantees at the New Jersey Championship of Online Poker (NJCOP), and $500,000 more than the WSOP.com guaranteed for their Online Championships.
The GSSS (it’s a poker series and not the name of a Nazi warship) is scheduled to run Sep 7 – 21 and coincides with the World Poker Tour (WPT) Borgata Poker Open Sep 14-19, giving out-of-towners the chance to get a feel of the New Jersey way of online poker life.
The schedule covers most tournament types/game structures, and with buy-ins ranging from $5 – $1,000 every class of person should be able to get involved.
Thus far the feedback has been minimal, but the main points being brought forward are thus.
• The inclusion of a leaderboard
• A bigger Main Event buy-in
• Reasonable start times for out-of-towners
• The inclusion of a heads-up tournament
• A request to see draft structures, and not just a draft schedule
