22-year old, Chanracy Khun, is the latest addition to the World Poker Tour (WPT) Champions Club roster after his victory at WPT Barcelona. The Canadian cash game regular was only in Europe on vacation, with a little bit of business thrown in for balance. His plan was to travel between Barcelona, Marbella and Berlin but he will now skip the Marbella stop after his €200,000 win last night.
A final table experience was new territory for a player just starting out on his live tournament grind.
“I have played a couple of events before, made some deep runs but never anything like this. I did once bubble a seat for the One Drop. It was a $25k buy-in at the Casino Montreal. There were 80-entrants and one seat. I got third for $90k and that was soul crushing.”
Khun started playing poker when he was just 18-years of age, playing low stakes sit n go’s before finding his niche in the online cash games. On Day Four he played out one of the biggest pots of the day, when he got it in for 80BB, against the chip leader Sergio Fernandez, holding just ace-king. I questioned this decision, as I believed he should not have taken the risk considering the weakness of the field. This is how he responded:
“If I am playing the higher buy-in events, then these are the type of hands I will never fold. In that particular hand it was more the history of the player. If I wanted to make some money, and ladder, then folding is probably the better option, but I am here to win.”
And win he did.
