One of the Asian Poker Tour’s marquee events, APT Philippines, is slowly building up a return after the APT announced the schedule for the annual event. Set to return to Resorts World Manila from April 17 to April 24, APT Philippines 2013 promises some of the biggest poker tournaments in region, highlighted by the Manila Millions and the APT Philippines Main Event.
This year, APT Philippines 2013 comes packed with a full schedule of events to complement the two aforementioned jewel events of the week-long poker festival. All told, a total of 16 events are on the docket, including a new 2 Man Team Heads-Up tournament, the PokerAce High Rollers, the MegaSportsWorld Deep Stack Turbo, numerous satellite events, and of course, the APT Philippines Main Event and the Manila Millions.
The latter two, in particular, are expected to be the most popular tournaments of APT Philippines 2013. The US$ 2,700 Main Event attracts a healthy number of poker players, increasing both the level of competition and the overall prize pool. Last year, South African Divan Le Roux edged out countryman Conrad Coetzer to win the title and the $197,000 first place prize money.
Then there’s the Manila Millions, the largest poker tournament to be held in the Philippines, thanks to a buy-in of HK$1 million. Last year, a total of 31 of the world’s best poker players competed in the tournament, including heavyweights like Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Johnny Chan, Tom Dwan, Winfred Yu, and APT Ambassador Joe Hachem. Ultimately, US-based Allan Le took home the 2012 title and the impressive HK$13.08 million first prize.
With the ever growing popularity of the game in the Asian region, particularly in the Philippines, you can pretty much pencil in a healthy showing of players for APT Philippines 2013. That much we’re certain of.
