Aussie gambling firm Tabcorp had rises in online and mobile betting to thank for an increase in net profit in continuing operations. Compared to the previous year the figure of $340 million net profit was in fact down – but last year the $534.8 million figure included the company’s casinos business. Since the demerger, the figure is comparable to the $301.6 million that didn’t include casino and thus there was an increase of 12.7 percent.
Online generated $2.16 billion in turnover for the company – up 14.5 percent compared to the year before – with chief executive David Attenborough adding: “Over 20 per cent of online turnover is now being placed through mobile devices.”
In other parts of the business, fixed odds revenues, across all channels, increased 41.5 percent to $321.4 million whilst tote betting continued to decline as customers shifted to fixed odds.
Social gaming developer Plumbee has appointed Peter Stathis to lead their new in-house slots development team. Stathis joins up after a decade with software developer NextGen Gaming and his official title is lead mathematician and game designer. CEO Raf Keustermans added: “Peter will play a pivotal role in building out our in-house slots development team here in London. Our goal is to focus a lot of our time and energy on providing our players with the best possible content in the social casino space.
“Building a top-notch in-house slots studio to complement our amazing content from Quickspin is an obvious next step and the bolstered Plumbee slots team will work across both Facebook and mobile platforms”.
The firm also used the same release to state they’ve premiered a version of keno on their Mirrorball Slots that becomes their first non-slot title ever. Gerald Tan, Product Head for Plumbee added: “This new bonus game is a fantastic addition to our current line-up of high-quality slots. Our players have a really fun and engaging new way of using their ‘hearts’ to win coins that can then be used in our slots. Our top prize of 15 matches is a whopping ten million coins.”
