News briefs: Skrill buys Paysafecard; 5050poker licence suspended; Microgaming releases slot; Gala Coral new creative agency

NewsPayment provider Skrill (formerly Moneybookers) has agreed to purchase Austrian firm paysafecard.com. The former, which is majority owned by Investcorp, is paying €140 million for the firm, according to Bloomberg, and combined it will give them 27 million end users. Paysafecard.com provides prepaid vouchers that allow consumers to shop online, with Skrill CEO, Siegfried Heimgaertner, stating: “The combined entity will offer a unique proposition in the payments market combining our leading digital wallet with the sophisticated POS and cash network of paysafecard. It enhances our product portfolio significantly, offering payment and money transfer options for both online and offline channels.”

Swedish operator 5050poker has had its licence suspended by Malta’s Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) in a week that also saw them struck off from Microgaming’s Poker Network for a “material breach”. 5050poker becomes the second poker operator is as many months to have its licence suspended by the LGA and the regulator is still yet to comment on the liquidation of Purple Lounge. In layman’s terms don’t expect to hear anything from the Maltesers for a while.

Microgaming has celebrated by releasing a new slot based on one of the popular Batman films. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight has been transformed into a four-tier progressive jackpot game with CEO Roger Raatgever telling eGR: “We have collaborated closely with DC Entertainment over the past few months in the development of a dynamic and realistic tribute to the blockbuster movie brand of ‘The Dark Knight.’ Fans of DC Comics and the film series will not be disappointed as their favourite heroes and villains are brought to life on the reels of this exciting new slot game.” A Dark Knight Rises slot will follow in 2013.

Gala Coral has signed a contract to utilize DKLW Loew as their creative agency. The Drum reports that after a three-way pitch including both M&C Saatchi and Newhaven in April.
