It’s being reported that Spiderman star Tobey Maguire is being sued for his part in an illicit gambling ring that has operated amongst a number of Hollywood celebrities. Radaronline.com reports that the actor won more than $300,000 from the manager of a Beverly Hills hedge fund in games of poker. The 35-year-old is being sued after an FBI investigation discovered that Brad Ruderman, the CEO of Ruderman Capital Partners, lost around $25million worth of investors money on the twice weekly games. Should have known not to play Maguire – he does have those tingly spidey senses after all.
The games were played in suites at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Four Seasons and the Viper Room on Sunset Boulevard. Star magazine broke the news and report that the actor may have won as much as $1million a month over three years. A source commented, “That means he could have made up to $30 to $40 million from these games.”
It’s understood that Maguire has hired an attorney to fight the claims made against him and explain that the games are in fact legal. There are varying reports that other high profile celebrities are also involved but Spiderman is the only one that is actually being investigated over the allegations. Whether this is just because Maguire was the only one to see this level of success is unknown but the Californian authorities are known to be seeking at least $300,000 from Maguire – maybe more. The document filed against Maguire can be seen at the following link.
