Lady Gaga has been the hottest thing in pop music since 2008. She achieved international popularity after her hit songs “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” dominated the worldwide charts. She’s the definition of awesome. Forbes listed her as one of the 100 Most Powerful and Influential Celebrities in the world and she ranked number 7 on their annual list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.
With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Loto-Quebec paid her $300,00 for the rights to use ‘Poker Face’ for their new card game. The song is featured on the gambling agency’s Lotto Poker TV advertisement, though Lady Gaga does not appear in the commercial.
It’s likely that Loto-Quebec is trying to entice younger players to join them by using Lady Gaga.
Age doesn’t seem to be much of a factor now when it comes to playing the game. I mean, look at 23-year-old Jonathan Duhamel who won the 2010 WSOP. He’s the first Canadian player to capture the Main Event Bracelet.
Or how about 18-year-old Kristian Negrard who is currently leading the European Poker Tour? Since Lady Gaga has a huge following among the younger generation, hearing her music on a gambling site would raise their chances of pulling in a younger audience.
I won’t be surprised if I see another commercial soon riding to the tune of ‘Born This Way’ or ‘Edge of Glory’.
Sure, Loto-Quebec paid her 300 grand to use one song, but based on how much they’ve been making after that, I’d say that it was money well spent. Who knows? Maybe with this move will help Loto-Quebec find the next Jonathan Duhamel or Kristian Negrard.
