Thailand-cracks-down-on-online-gambling-cafesInternational news source, the Nation, is reporting that several internet cafes in the northeast of Thailand were forcibly closed after officials discovered that the sites were streaming online gambling services via live broadcasts in Cambodia.

It’s not just the small operations being shut down either, as the largest café in Khon Kaen, which the Nation claims drew more than Bt10 million in bets daily, was one of many targets in the recent series of raids.

The government has closed down similar clubs and cafes in Mara Sarakham, Chaiyaphum and Ubon Ratchthani as well.

It seems that, for the moment at least, the Thai people will have to resort to more traditional methods of region-specific gambling, like playing Pai Gow in seedy shacks operated by gangsters.
