Chilipoker coming to the US in 2011, but first it’s off to Marrakech for WPT

chilipoker-us-marrakech-wptBack in January, Chilipoker CEO Alexandre Dreyfus made the following statement: “Concerning the US market, I don’t have any point of view except the fact that Chilipoker will be present when it will be possible.” Apparently, the impossible has become possible, with the announcement that Chili will launch a stateside subscription-based poker site in 2011 that “will help fill the void that exists in markets where online gaming is restricted and consumers want to play poker.” So, I guess it’s Saudi Arabia next, huh, Al?

On Chili’s more immediate horizon, the World Poker Tour is returning to Morocco on Nov. 20th for the WPT Marrakech. The Chili-sponsored tourney’s €5k buy-in Main Event gets underway on Nov. 27th, and pros expected to take part include Chili’s own Liz Lieu and the ever-popular Liv Boeree. Last year’s event, the first major poker tourney ever held in North Africa, attracted 416 players from 32 different countries, creating a €379k prize for first place finisher Eoghan O’Dea.
