Day 2 of the World Poker Tour’s Festa al Lago is underway at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Some 294 players took part in Day 1, an improvement over 2009’s count of 275. This may have something to do with the WPT taking a page out of the WSOP-C’s playbook by cutting the buy-in from $15K to $10K this year.
Among the 214 players returning for Day 2 actions are chip leader Payman Arjang (the only player above 200K), #2 Peter Braglia, Jeff Madsen, Ryan Young and Sorel Mizzi. Those who failed to make the grade include Mike Sexton, Phil Laak and November Niner Joseph Cheong. Also leaving was Tommy Vedes, who won the 2009 event, maintaining the streak of no former WPT champ being able to repeat their triumph of the year before. Can we start some ‘WPT curse’ meme now?
