Las Vegas’s Station Casinos is suing the pants off two websites for allegedly cybersquatting and trademark infringement for associating Station trademarks with online gambling businesses. The two websites in question are one by Ryan Murphy of Great Britain, stationcasinos.org; and another entity called S.L. Enterprises, which according to Station lawyers, is allegedly associated with the domain name vegasstationcasino.com.
Both entities are being sued separately in the U.S. District Court for Nevada and according to Station lawyers the stationcasinos.org name links to various websites including an online gambling site www.onlinevegas.com. The crux of lawsuit is that by registering and using a domain name containing Station Casinos trademarks, the defendants were attempting to trade off the goodwill Station Casinos has built in those marks.
In both lawsuits it is alleged that the purpose of the sites in question was to lure away prospective visitors to Las Vegas, and that’s something you just can’t get away with, especially now in with current economic state of Sin City. This lawsuit should certainly serve as a warning to any website operators linked to the online gambling business attempting to skim off the top from Vegas, you can expect a team of high powered lawyers on your ass.
