Everything’s legal in the Netherlands, even online gambling

Over the years, Amsterdam has emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and it’s a small wonder why. The Dutch capital is home to a legal system so liberal that it makes even Mexico wince. Thanks to laws enacted by the nation’s new right-wing government, Amsterdam may now be the only city in which one can legally smoke a joint, nail a hooker and gamble online all at once.

Sources are reporting that the newly elected government is interested in legalizing and regulating online gambling in the not too distant future. Radio Netherlands Worldwide claims that more than 500,000 Dutch citizens currently gamble online in some manner, and officials are keen to bank off of its popularity by licensing and taxing online casinos and bookies.
The news comes after years of lobbying from the country’s largest land casino, The Holland Casino, which believes that licensing and regulating online gambling will not only lead to an economic boon for the country, but also rid the Dutch of the many illegal operations currently working in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile in the U.S., politicians prefer to simply argue about bullshit rather than work towards similar legislation.
