Anyone who is an expert at wiping the smiles off the faces of smug people should step forward right now, and head down the turnpike, taking the exit for New Jersey. The expert smile-wiper has been eagerly searching for Sportech and it’s smiley people for much of the last six months, and even asked dour Scot Alan Hansen for help, as they frantically tracked them through India, South Africa, and even a Bolivian wrestling tournament but it was to no avail.
Why New Jersey then? Well Sportech is believed to be in the Garden State trying to gain the final regulatory approval over it’s acquisition of Scientific Games Racing (SGR), which began earlier on this year and now only needs the New Jersey Racing Commission to jump aboard for the deal to go through.
Sportech have already gained regulatory approval from New Jersey Casino Control Commission, the Gaming Policy Board of Connecticut, and the Maine State Harness Racing Commission. Upon the news, Shares in Sportech plc rose by 7.89 per cent yesterday, and are currently trading at 41.00 pence per share in London.
