Two-time World Snooker Champion Alex Higgins has been found dead at his home in Belfast after a long battle wth throat cancer. The “People’s Champion” had apparently been dead a few days before neighbors discovered his body. Higgins had an unorthodox (at times volatile) style of playing that outraged traditionalists yet had immense appeal to the average pub player. Higgins struggled in later years with various addictions, even contemplating suicide at one point, yet managed to pull himself together long enough to sign on for the Snookers Legends Tour in March, although his deteriorating condition ultimately forced him to withdraw.
