It’s not quite 2006’s lofty numbers, in which 8,773 WSOP main event entrants pushed ultimate champion Jamie Gold’s prize to a record $12M, but this year’s 7,200+ entrants are 10% higher than last year (i.e., there’s 10% more entrants, not 10% more mood-altering substances in their bodies). That figure makes it the second highest number of entrants on record, and they’re expected to lift this year’s jackpot to almost $9M.
