Justice has been served, at least as far as Paddy Power bettors who bet on Manny Pacquiao are concerned.
The Irish betting company is one with the world in the belief that the Filipino superstar should have won his fight against Timothy Bradley. And when the controversial decision was meted down, giving Desert Storm the win over PacMan, Paddy Power refused to accept the official verdict of the judges.
In an act that will certainly endear it to its clientele, Paddy Power has refunded bettors who placed wagers on Pacquiao, calling it “Justice Payouts”.
In a statement on their blog, Paddy Power said:
“It was a result that stunned the world, even by modern professional boxing standards. Last night in Las Vegas the brilliant Filipino Manny Pacquiao lost his WBO welterweight belt to Timothy Bradley in a controversial split-decision defeat.”
“With that Paddy Power has rolled out one of our famous Justice Payouts. If you had placed a bet on Manny to win in a pre-fight outright or on points, that money is now back in your account. We Hear You!”
Anybody who had a pair of eyes saw a fight that had Pacquiao visibly dominate Bradley. But the Filipino boxing icon somehow lost the fight in the scorecards, with judge Jerry Roth the only one who had him winning 115-113. Judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford had Bradley by the same score, giving the win to the challenger by split decision.
Before the fight, Pacquiao was listed as the favorite to beat Bradley with 1/7 odds. Bradley, as the underdog, received 9/2 odds.
The ongoing fallout from the controversial decision has caused an uproar all over the world, including the online sports betting scene. To their credit, Paddy Power listened and did its clients a good service by refunding all bets made on Pacquiao.
