The Story

Financial records showed that Macau casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) grew by 12.5% to approximately MOP22.49b (US$2.81b) last month, a figure that was well below the 18% growth expected by analysts.

Macau’s losing GGR streak was caused by various reasons.

Gaming analysts noted that business volumes across Macau fizzled in the last week of June. Union Gaming said that casino players have stayed out of Macau to watch the World Cup in their homes. In addition, June is considered to be one of the toughest comps of the year. This fact led JP Morgan analysts DS Kim and Sean Zhuang to agree that Macau's June GGR result remained pretty decent and resilient.
