The Story

A House of Representatives’ committee in Japan has approved the Integrated Resorts (IR) Implementation bill despite attempts by opposition to derail the passage of the said piece of legislation.

Opposition didn’t go out without a fight.

The vote for the IR Implementation bill became tense after opposition lawmakers swarmed around committee chair Daishrio Yamagiwa to demonstrate their disapproval of the proceedings. Earlier, the dissenters called for the resignation of the government official responsible for the IR bill but their motion was rejected.

Having hurdled the committee level, the bill is set to be voted upon by the Diet’s full Lower House this week before shifting to the Upper House.
