The Russian government has drafted a new legislation that will make registration for online sports betting accounts easier after 14 licensed online bookmakers complained their frustration about the two-step registration process. 

The new legislation prepared by Russia’s Ministry of Finance removed the two-step registration process which entailed the online registration with a centralized payment hub (TSUPIS) and then the confirmation of that registration by physically presenting proof of identity at a land-based betting shop or at the bookmakers’ retail partner. The bookmakers raised the removal of the said cumbersome process so they can cash in on the expected spike in football betting due to the FIFA World Cup.
