The Story | |||||
Increases in the sports betting taxes are in the works in Italy as the national government prepares its 2018 budget. |
How much are these increases? |
While nothing is set in stone yet, the proposals would see land-based betting taxes increase from 18% to 19% while online-based betting tax would increase from 22% to 23%. However, the Italian Ministry of Finance wants to peg the tax rate for both online and land-based sports betting taxes to 21%. |
I just hope that these tax hikes are good for the industry. |
I think it would, considering that when Italy revamped its online sports betting tax regime two years ago, the online sports betting market posted double-digit gains. |
Anything else? |
The budget draft also proposes extending all current betting concessions until the end of 2018. This will ensure that regional governments can adapt to the changes being implemented in the land-based gaming industry. |
Takeaway |
The proposed increases in the sports betting tax for the operators may be negligible at 1% yet with proper support, this would accrue to the benefit of the sports betting industry in Italy. |
