The Story

The government of Antigua and Barbuda has asked the U.S. government to fulfill its obligations to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to help relief efforts in Barbuda which was ravaged by Hurricane Irma.

There is no better time for the U.S. to pay.

Ronald Sanders, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States and the Organization of American States for Antigua and Barbuda, said that with an estimated 95% of the structures on Barbuda having been flattened by Irma,  and Hurricane Jose expected to blow through the region this weekend, the cost of rebuilding will be staggering. Thus, now is the time for the United States to finally honor its nine-figure obligation to Antigua.

Antigua and Barbuda is playing its only card.

Sanders said that with Antigua and Barbuda having no formal ties to Europe or America to rely for support, it clings on the hope that Antigua will receive the $270,000,000 that the U.S. owes. The small Caribbean country has yet to receive a single penny from the U.S.

But all is not lost.

With the possibility of U.S. paying Antigua becoming more far-fetched by the minute, Sanders said that he is encouraged by reports that some personalities have pledged to aid Barbuda’s relief effort. The list includes actor Robert de Niro, Australian casino mogul James Packer, and long-time Antigua resident and our very own Calvin Ayre. Mr. Ayre has pledged to give $1 million for the relief effort and his foundation said that it would match online gambling industry donations up to $1 million.

There are many ways to donate, including Bitcoin Cash.

If you have a kind heart, please donate for Barbuda’s rebuilding through the following: first, through the Calvin Ayre Foundation; second, through accessing the official GoFundMe page set up by the Antigua and Barbuda government; third, with Bitcoin through this address: 15fT2nvS8NUs9D9aLF12rVAKb37cUiuoar; and lastly, through Bitcoin Cash at: 1L89GJ3ecXh2PdZpDxPd5YwaLY1bYNcsNS.

Takeaway

Antigua and Barbuda needs all the help it can gather. So we are urging you and your friends to dig deep into your pockets and donate.
