Poker Central will guarantee rake-free entry into every single one of next season’s ARIA High Rollers for the winner of a newly created ARIA High Roller Player of the Year beginning at the end of the month.
There was a time in the not too distant past when a section of the poker world broke away from the cliff face and became a unique island.
The High Rollers.
Back then, people smarter than me, and a few dumber argued that the concept wouldn’t last. The buy-ins were too high. Whales fed up with the constant nibbling of the sharks would return to the Baccarat tables. Things would return to normal.
Yeah.
That didn’t happen.
I’ve spent the past week, chained to a light blue sofa, talking life with a plethora of these High Rollers. There’s one thing that most of them have in common. None of them seems to care about titles.
It’s all about the money, honey.
But it hasn’t stopped Poker Central from creating an ARIA High Roller Player of the Year award.
The High Roller Player of the Year Award
Beginning with the $25,000 ARIA event scheduled for May 31, and ending with the 2019 Super High Roller Bowl (SHRB), Poker Central will award points to those finishing ITM, and hand out a series of prizes to the top leaderboard finishers.
The winner will secure rake-free entry into every ARIA High Roller of the season, including what Poker Central is referring to as the High Roller Triple Crown: The Poker Masters, US Poker Open and the Super High Roller Bowl.
Avid readers of my tosh know that I believe the SHRB lottery system is as classy as tearing the wings off butterflies, but it seems it is here to stay. By the time the 2019 SHRB lottery takes place, the Top 5 players on the leaderboard will secure a seat in the event. It’s an improvement, but I would still like to see the lottery system abolished, and I think the leaderboard system could be a fairer way of choosing the entrants, particularly when it comes to American participants.
With Triton Poker making a splash in the Adriatic this week, suddenly Poker Central has competition, and I believe a leaderboard system is a good move for the fans, even if the players won’t give two hoots.
Poker Central awards points as thus:
1st – 100 points
2nd – 70
3rd – 50
4th – 40
5th – 30
Anything else – 20
