The nominations for the fifth installment of the British Poker Awards have been announced and the biggest shock is the omission of the Everest Brand Ambassador, and seven-time British Poker Award winner, Sam Trickett.
Who are the very best British poker players?
Who has dominated the live tournament game scene? Who is eating fish alive in the online cash games? Who is making us all smile with their wit-filled 140 characters? Who is going to be wearing a better Christmas jumper than Sam Grafton?
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of the year as the nominations for the 2014 British Poker Awards have been announced, and the fifth installment will see awards doled out in 16 different categories.
“After the overwhelming success of the 2013 awards, we can’t wait to once again recognize the top talents in British poker,” said Michael Caselli, editor-in-chief of Bluff Europe. “We have seen some fantastic performances from British players in 2014, as they have shown they can mix it with the world’s best both live and online.”
The short list of nominees has been drawn up with a little help from an expert panel that includes PokerNews UK Editor Matthew Pitt, PokerStrategy’s Barry Carter, Ranking Hero co-founder Nicolas Levi, Late Night Poker creator Nic Szeremeta, the greatest commentator in the biz, Jesse May, and yours truly.
New categories for 2014 include Breakout Player of the Year, and Hand of the Year, and we have lost the category for Live Cash Game Player of the Year. Simon Deadman (Best Live Tournament Player, Breakout Player of the Year and Performance of the Year), Victoria Coren Mitchell (Best Social Media User, Performance of the Year and Personality of the Year), and Patrick Leonard (Best Online Player of the Year, Breakout Player of the Year, and Performance of the Year), have been nominated for the most awards with three a piece.
The big omission is the Everest Ambassador, Sam Trickett, who has won seven British Poker Awards, including the awards for Best Live Tournament Player, and Best Live Cash Game Player during the 2013 ceremony. Other big winners in 2013 were Barny Boatman, Chris Moorman, Sam Grafton and Alex Millar.
