Partypoker LIVE continues its progress up the live tournament organiser charts by planning to host a $5m Guaranteed Caribbean Poker Adventure.
It was November 2016 that the World Poker Tour (WPT) and partypoker got together to throw the party of all parties in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
A lot of cards have come out of the deck in those five months.
Partypoker and the WPT are no longer sharing the same bed. Instead, the online poker room has laid down a few markers to one day dominate the European poker scene in the same way the WPT dominates Stateside.
The first move Tom Waters and the higher ups made was to hire the European Poker Tour (EPT) founder, John Duthie, as President of the newly formed partypoker LIVE brand.
Next came a big test, as partypoker LIVE moved into Sochi, Russia to host the $1,100 buy-in, $1m Guaranteed partypoker Million event, and 1,170 souls turned out to pay their respects with Dmitry Chop taking home the first prize of $225k.
Ok, you can put that excellent start down to the over exuberant attitude of a lot of Russian folks starved of top notch live tournament entertainment. The real challenge was going to be hitting the £6m Guarantee slapped on the side of the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Dusk till Dawn.
The team partnered with live casinos all over the UK, in Italy, and Austria, as well as hosting a myriad of Phase 1 and Day 1 events online. The event was an unmitigated success with over 8,400 entrants ensuring the £6m price tag was surpassed, and Maria Lampropulos became a millionaire after taking the title.
We Are Taking Over The Hotel
The partypoker LIVE tour bus has already landed in Canada for the CAD $5m Guaranteed partypoker Million North America, and have announced plans to host a $5m Guaranteed MILLIONS event in Sochi Sep 1-11, but the team aren’t resting on their laurels, they have their foot pressed hard on the gas.
Between 18-25 November, partypoker LIVE is taking over The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical, a five-star hotel in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic for the partypoker Caribbean Poker Party Part II.
“This year, we are hiring out the whole hotel for partypoker players and their families,” John Duthie told the press.
The festival of sun, sea, and some serious swigging sessions will drive people to their shores thanks to a $5m Guaranteed $5,300 Main Event, and a $1m Guaranteed $1,100 Side Event.
If you think it’s a little pricey to travel to the other end of the world, then understand, you can qualify online for a $10k package for as little as a cent. The teeny-weeny sats feed into a weekly $1,050 buy-in event taking place each Sunday at 9 pm (BST) guaranteeing five packages. Each package consists of the Main Event seat, seven night’s stay in the five-star hotel, and $2k towards flights.
And it is going to be a whopper.
The last time partypoker took over Punta Cana the star of the show was Troy Quenneville. The Canadian finished second to Niall Farrell in the $4,560 partypoker WPT Caribbean Main Event for $220,000 and then parlayed that into a $400,000 score by defeating Erik Cajelais in the $2,500 partypoker Million event.
And that’s not all.
During the last Caribbean Poker Adventure, a certain Jacob Mulhern made the trip and picked up a Golden Ticket for bagging up chips at the end of Day 1, and turned it into £100,000 for lasting longer than the other Golden Ticket winners at the DTD MILLIONS event.
Oh, I nearly forgot…he also came second for £650,000 and earned his seat competing in a $22 buy-in online satellite.
