WSOP.com Nevada shuts down the site to make a series of ‘technological’ changes to the software, and over the pond, FTOPS XXVI gets underway with $4.5m in guarantees.
By the time you finish reading, WSOP.com Nevada would have finished one of their biggest software upgrades since the site opened for action back in the summer of 2013.
The cyber doors were locked shut, throughout an eight hour period, whilst the technical geniuses went to work on a whole host of technological changes; some of which are still awaiting regulatory approval before users can glean the benefits. WSOP.com New Jersey was not affected by the upgrade.
The changes will introduce a new geolocation vendor, GeoComply, the same Wi-Fi based approach that is used at WSOP.com New Jersey. Cellular based geolocation will still be supported but the default system will be Wi-Fi based. Although the technology has changed, the switch, will not be flicked until late Aug, or early Sep.
The changes also include great news for getting your money on and off the site. The laborious task of speaking to a customer services agent, prior to depositing at the cage, has been replaced by a speedier e-mail system. There will also be the added opportunity to withdraw via the cage. Once again these changes are subject to regulatory approval, and users should see them take effect late Aug or early Sep.
The foundations have also been laid for the introduction of mobile devices, but once again regulatory approval to use iOS and Android clients is still sitting on someone’s desk within the offices of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Those peeps who are unfortunate enough to only have a windows based computer do get the see rebuy/add-on enhancements, SNG log out reminders, last hand quick view and additional tournament information in lobby view.
The more advanced amongst us who possess Macs will have to wait a little while longer for these changes, and the head of WSOP.com Online, Bill Rini, had no definitive timescale for these changes.
WSOP.com Nevada was recently thrust into the spotlight after speculation surged around the poker world that they may break tradition and add sponsored pros to their arsenal, with the former world champion Greg Merson being touted as the man who may break that particular hymen.
