It’s been a little over four weeks since Super Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, hit the central Philippine islands and while the world has given with their heart, more help is still needed to help the people rebuild after the devastating storm.
The Calvin Ayre Foundation has been on the ground providing assistance where it can and this is the first of many expected updates on the foundations progress in helping the people of the Philippines.
On November 21st, the Calvin Ayre Foundation sent a team to assist Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Lo-ong, Concepcion in Iloilo City as part of the foundation’s adopt a village program.
The team was on the ground to help institute a feeding program to ensure each family as receiving complete healthy meals, a medical mission which gave the families free assessments and consultations from volunteer doctors and nurse, in addition to dispensing medicines and vitamins to the families in dire need throughout the village.
Along with the feeding program and the medical mission, the team assisted by providing and distributing building materials to kick-start the rebuilding efforts in the town. The Philippines is a devout country and the church is such an integral part of the community, the Calvin Ayre Foundation team made it a priority to help start the reconstruction of the Chapel in Sitio San Vicente.
Foundation project lead Danica said of the project, “We are very thankful the Calvin Ayre Foundation has had opportunity to extend our hands to the people of Sitio San Vicente who are in need.
We are glad to see the people happy with goods that we gave them but most importantly the hope to start a new life after the typhoon. It was very heartwarming to see them smile after all that they have gone through.”
This is just one example of thousands of stories of people coming to the aid of the wonderful Filipino people who have gone through so much. While progress is being made, it will take years to fully rebuild from the devastation brought by Typhoon Haiyan.
The Calvin Ayre Foundation would like the thank those that have already donated, the generosity is very much appreciated but I know we in the gambling industry have big hearts and are capable of so much more.
One example of that generosity is seen in a gaming industry executive, who I won’t name but he knows who he is, has talked his teenage children into foregoing Christmas presents this year so that the money that the family would have spent on gifts could go to various charities.
Please continue to donate to known charities for the Haiyan Typhoon Relief and the Calvin Ayre Foundation will continue to match all gaming industry donation until it reaches $1,000,000.
Once you’ve donated to the charity of your choice, please email a copy of your receipt [email protected] and the Calvin Ayre Foundation will match it.
Thank you for what you’ve given and please continue to give what you can.
