New York Jets gives books plenty to smile about in Week 9 of the NFL

jets-saintsA week after sportsbooks to a beating from the betting public, the tide quickly turned back to the former’s favor. And wouldn’t you know it, the New York Jets gave sportsbooks the biggest reason to jump for joy.

With over 75 percent of the betting money riding on the New Orleans Saints to cover the -6.5 spread, the Jets defense rose up to the occasion, putting the clamps on Drew Brees and the high-octane Saints offense on its way to a stunning 26-20 victory at MetLife Stadium. The win not only propelled the J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets! back into the thick of the wild card picture, but the team also rewarded sportsbooks with one of its biggest wins of the season. Quite a comeback, if there ever was one after last week’s disaster.

The Dallas Cowboys also gave sportsbooks another plus side on the docket. With the public heavily on the side of the so-called America’s Team, the Cowboys pulled off a closer than expected win against the Minnesota Vikings, 27-23. Despite the win, Dallas came no close to covering the -10 spread against the Vikes, thereby giving the books more reason to smile.

Unfortunately, not all of Sunday’s results favored the house. The Indianapolis Colts was one of the most heavily bet-on teams for the day and while it seemed like it was on its way to losing against the Houston Texans and icing that -1 spread, Andrew Luck and company stormed back in the fourth quarter, pulling off another improbable win to give the betting public something to cheer about, in addition to other big results in their favor, namely the Kansas City Chiefs covering the 5-point spread against the Buffalo Bills with a 23-13 win and the New England Patriots thoroughly dismantling the Pittsburgh Steelers, 55-21, easily covering the -6 spread.
