Jackie Glazier makes a small piece of World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) history as she becomes the first winner of a ladies only gold bracelet after defeating Maryline Valente in heads-up action.
Only 65-players saw the value in paying €1,100 for the opportunity to win a WSOP gold bracelet, in what may well be the first – and only time – we see a ladies only event at the WSOPE.
One lady who couldn’t care less about the size of the field is the 888.com sponsored pro Jackie Glazier. It was a dream start for the sponsors of the WSOPE, and a continuation of the Aussie’s success, after a second place finish in a 2012 WSOP open event and the title of last woman standing at this years WSOP Main Event, made sure her name would top the European poker news come this mornings print run.
Only seven players were going to get paid and controversy reigned after seven of the final eight players agreed to chip in with €200 each of prize money to make sure the bubble girl would go away with a payday. The one person who threw a spanner into those particular works was Jackie Glazier. The eventual winner declining the deal to place sour faces on the remaining seven players as we headed to the final table.
Final Table Standings
Seat 1: Celine Bastian – 15,675 Seat 2: Maryline Valente – 35,725 Seat 3: Laurie Bismuth – 31,975 Seat 4: Jackie Glazier – 57,400 Seat 5: Anais Lerouge – 15,975 Seat 6: Nathalie Odet – 9,150 Seat 7: Gaelle Baumann – 4,500 Seat 8: Sherrill Lindsey – 25,625Anais LeRouge Bubbles
It was Anais LeRouge who will be sticking pins in Jackie Glazier voodoo dolls after ending the tournament in eighth spot for a big fat nothing.
LeRouge opened the action from middle position and Maryline Valente defended her big blind. The flop was [Qc] [Jc] [2s] and both players got it in with LeRouge holding [Ac] [2c] for bottom pair and the nut flush draw, and Valente holding [Tc] [9c] for the open-ended straight draw and straight flush draw.
The [Ts] on the turn handing Valente a higher pair, and after the river bricked LeRouge was eliminated from the tournament.
The Winamax Pro Gaelle Baumann was out in seventh place in a hand against Laurie Bismuth. It was an all-in pre flop showdown with Baumann holding pocket fours, Bismuth holding ace-nine and a nine on the flop settled that little score.
Glazier Gets There on the River
Jackie Glazier eliminated Sherrill Lindsey-Jones in sixth place after calling all the way to the river where she spiked her nut flush holding [Ad] [Jd] on [Kd] [7h] [3d] [Qs] [5d]. Lindsey-Jones unfortunate to get caught holding [Kh] [Ts] for top pair and she was out.
Bismuth Catches Nathalie Odet
Laurie Bismuth eliminated Nathalie Odet in fifth place after a sneaky move.
Celine Bastian opened the hijack and both Bismuth and Odet just flatted. The flop was [Ks] [6d] [4c] and Odet led for 3k, Bastian folded but Bismuth raised to 6k. The pair decided to play for stacks and it was Bismuth who would win with a nicely disguised pair of aces out gunning the king-queen of Odet.
Tough Luck for Bastian
Celine Bastian found out what it tastes like to run into a white hot Jackie Glazier. The pair getting it in with the Frenchwoman in the lead with JJ facing off against KT, only for a king on the river to end Bastian’s participation in fourth place.
Bismuth Out Against Glazier
Once again it would be Jackie Glazier wielding the axe and this time Laurie Bismuth would face the blunt force trauma. Another all-in and call pre flop with Bismuth holding ace-jack against the dominating ace-king. Kicker played, Bismuth left the table and Glazier prepared for a heads up encounter with Maryline Valente.
Jacks Will Do For Glazier
Glazier started the heads-up encounter with a 113,500-v 81,500-chip lead, but it would jump to and fro with both players taking the chip lead throughout the heads-up phase.
The final hand came when both players looked down to see a pair and an all-in showdown. It was pocket jacks for Glazier, pocket sixes for Valente and no surprises from the deck. Glazier winning €21,000 and the first-ever WSOPE ladies gold bracelet.
“I am just so honored to have this title. After being the last women standing and then come to Europe win the first event I am beside myself with happiness.” Glazier told PokerListings after her win.
