Rebecca Harris to reach ‘new heights’ after agreeing to take part in the Responsible Gambling Trust’s Kilimanjaro Challenge

Consisting of three stratovolcanoes – Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo – Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes to ever break through the earth’s crust and is one of the seven summits of the world.

During the seven-day expedition, Rebecca – along with 27 other intrepid adventurers – will trek through four climatic zones. First they will take on the lush, green, humid rainforest before entering into the low alpine region with its heath and moorland and fresher climate. They will then encounter the brown, dusty, dry alpine desert that offers little shelter from the elements and where night temperatures plummet to freezing. And then, on days five and six, they will be faced with their greatest challenge: in a 30 hour period they will have to trek for up to 22 hours with 1,615m of ascent and 2,200m of descent as well as enduring the effects of the arctic zone, where oxygen levels are nearly half of that at sea level. If they are successful, they will have reached Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the roof of Africa.

The Responsible Gambling Trust aims to raise over £50,000 from its Kilimanjaro Challenge to help minimise gambling-related harm in Britain.

Rebecca Harris, Marketing Executive at Clarion Events, explained: “Clarion Events has supported the Responsible Gambling Trust for a number of years so when an opportunity presented itself to take part in this exciting challenge it was too good to refuse. I’m extremely thankful for Clarion Events for giving me the chance to join this expedition and for helping with my fundraising efforts.

“Since working for Clarion Events, I have learnt about the good work that the Responsible Gambling Trust does and now know what a worthy cause it is. If I reach my fundraising target and the summit of Kilimanjaro it will be a great personal achievement.”
