World Series of Poker organizers must be getting a trifle worried after another event failed to reach its capacity. Event #3 – Head-up NLHE Omaha – saw only 317 players enter and it meant that 61 players were given byes to move on to the next round. Small fields have so far been a recurring theme at the 2012 WSOP – the second since the events of Black Friday last year.
The bright spot in the distance was Event #4, which attracted 14 more entrants than last year, and many will be hoping the rise in entrants continues throughout the tournament’s duration.
PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst is unhappy that bathroom arrangements at this year’s tournament have left her with no pot to piss in. The two bathrooms along the Convention Centre’s main hall are usually divided equally so there’s one for each sex. This year both are for male players and Selbst complained to CardPlayer that it “sends a really bad message to women” and that it’s “not inviting” for females looking to get involved in the sport. Thankfully the problem doesn’t exist in the Brasilia and Pavilion rooms and begs the question as to why they had to change them both to male?
Dan “Jungleman” Cates is offering one lucky player the chance to earn a free $10,000 buy-in for this year’s main event. Cates has set a deadline of June 20 for entrants to submit a clip of them performing a good deed and the winner will get the place. He revealed his plans to PartyPoker, the statement reading:
I’m looking forward to the WSOP. My life has changed immeasurably in recent years and there is always mad stuff going on in the poker world. That said, I will never forget when I was playing low stakes in college and I don’t take for granted any success I have had. I want to give something back to those who are just falling in love with the game or haven’t had the opportunities I am lucky to have had.
