Police on high alert for possible shenanigans at EPT Vienna

EPT-Vienna-PoliceNicholas Newport won PaddyPower’s Irish Winter Festival over the weekend, beating 346 other players to take the €125k first prize. Best of all, nobody burst down the doors with automatic weapons looking to claim the pot for themselves. Hey, it’s happened before…

With that in mind, the organizers of the EPT Vienna stop must be happy to learn that the local police have taken such an interest in the goings-on. After failing in their reported attempts to get city officials to cancel the event outright, Austrian police have fallen back on adding extra security measures to prevent ‘negative incidents’.

This marks the EPT’s first stop in Vienna since 2005. Then, Pascal Perrault took home €184k for first place. This year’s winner will take home a guaranteed €500k. Some 234 players bought in for €3500, but only 117 made it though Day 1a, with Sergii Baranov on top with 183k chips.
