You know that scene in The Princess Bride where Vizini says ‘inconceivable’ for, like, the hundredth time, prompting Inigo Montoya to reply “I do not think it means what you think it means.” Well, we don’t think Chinese authorities understand the term ‘vulgar’. Perhaps because cracking down on online gambling isn’t fully utilizing the hundred million or so cops in China, the Ministry of Culture is now cracking down on online gaming, in particular, the ‘vulgar marketing’ used to promote it.
In this case, ‘vulgar’ means the appearance of fully clothed women, some of whom may have previously appeared in adult films. Precisely how China’s youths are supposed to recognize them as porn actresses if they haven’t already seen the blue movies in question isn’t clear, but clearly, if they’ve already seen the pornos, then this is a case of shutting the barn door long after the cows have fled.
