Olympic Torch Reignites This Canadian Prairie Boy’s Pride

2010OlympicsEarly Wednesday morning the Olympic torch crossed the border from Saskatchewan to Lloydminster, Alberta, a town about 20 miles away from the Saskatchewan pig farm I grew up on. Watching the event unfold thousands of miles away in Antigua, I couldn’t help but become overwhelmed with Canadian pride. Today the torch hits good old Red Deer, Alberta and part of me wishes I was running along with it.

As a one-time resident of Vancouver (I lived there in the early 1990s before moving to Costa Rica in 1996 and well before making the move to Antigua in 2006), the Vancouver 2010 Olympics is something that I hold close to my heart. And even though I’ll be watching the Games from thousands of miles away (I plan to put a flat screen out by the pool), I will be keeping close tabs on Team Canada; cheering loudly and wishing hard – that each and every (Canadian) athlete (especially the women’s and men’s hockey teams) achieves success at these Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
