Authorities in South Carolina are cracking down on cockfighting, and the state’s citizens say it’s about time. The state has some of the weakest penalties in the country for those involved with the brutal pastime. The misdemeanors handed out are seen as simply an inconvenience and not a deterrent. However, things are starting to change. Federal and state authorities are starting to go after cockfighting ringleaders by using tougher federal laws.
