Do Christian groups hate gambling, or just Barney Frank?

Christian-Groups-Barney-FrankWhile much of America and the online gambling community is quite giddy with anticipation at the thought of legal online gambling, the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission isn’t so thrilled. In fact, they’re quite pissed off, because they are under the impression that online gambling sites are fronts for money laundering, drug trafficking and financing for terrorists. Seriously.

Then again, these fundies also believe in biblical inerrancy, the notion that every single word in the Bible means exactly what it says it means. According to this theory, the Earth is no more than 6,000 years old, so that whole carbon dating thing is a fraud, which means the Flintstones was a more or less accurate depiction of how man and dinosaur interacted together.

But let’s be candid, shall we? Southern Baptists also view homosexuality as ‘an abomination’, and thus it can’t have escaped their notice that the prime mover behind the online gambling push is one Barney Frank, an openly gay man. As the Church Lady used to say, how convenient. Nice to be able to combine all your blinkered prejudices into one tidy bundle, isn’t it? Read more.

I pretty much hate all fundamentalists of any religion and stories like this always get me shaking my head…they want to live boring lives…have at it….keep your crap ideas out of mine however.

I do believe that America is kinda bored with what 'entertainment' does mean. Drugs, porn, living the ghetto life and gangsterism are the things that entertain them. Does the iGaming industry deserve to be percieved like this? You guys need to tackle same sex marriage and pornography on a higher note.

    Thank you.

It's not only religious fundamentalists who oppose legal gambling. For instance, some years the Canadian leftist publication This Magazine featured an article on how legal gambling was hurting women (tellingly, the title was “Luck be a lady tonight”) even though most hardcore gamblers are men.
