The Story

A Japanese news magazine has accused the casino operator, one of the many vying for a casino license in Japan, of making illegal bribes to Japanese politicians through appearances at social gatherings organized by politicians.

 

The magazine may be reaching when it described Caesars’ bribery attempt.

The Shukan Bunshun reported that Caesars’ advisor Jun Okawa attended gatherings organized by politicians through the years. Purchasing tickets to gain access to these events was deemed by the news magazine as a form of bribery. However, Caesars argued that Okawa’s action was in accordance with Japanese laws. Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasutoshi Nishimura also said that Okawa’s attendance to these meetings should be a “non-issue.”
