The Story

Norway’s Parliament has approved new gambling laws, which include sharper teeth against unauthorized gambling products and blocking domain name system (DNS) of international sites that compete with local gambling monopolies.

Norway-facing operators say they are running their businesses as usual.

Labor Party MP Kari Henriksen said the new measures won’t stop unauthorized online gambling but “supervision and control are strengthened.” The government hopes that these laws will translate to fewer Norwegians patronizing the unapproved sites. The operators, however, dismissed the new rules, saying that they are likely to carry on with their businesses as none of the proposals make it a crime to visit international sites.
