If we're going to fight battles they might as well be the ones to change the world.

The Story

Malta’s gambling regulator just released a white paper which intends to dramatically overhaul the country’s gaming legal framework.

But why?

The Malta Gaming Authority’s goal is to replace Malta’s current gambling legislation with a new Gaming Act that will reduce “unnecessary regulatory burdens” and will allow the MGA to strengthen supervision “on the areas which present a higher risk profile.”

The current licensing system is in for a shake-up.

One of the changes that MGA wants to implement is the revamp of the licensing system by only issuing just two types of licenses: business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B). License duration would be doubled to 10 years from the current five.

MGA will dangle gaming tax exemption to B2B licensees.

B2B licensees will be exempted from gaming tax in a bid to boost Malta’s appeal as the hub for online gambling service providers.

There is also good news for holders of cryptocurrencies.

The MGA also confirmed that it remains “committed to allow the use of crypto-currencies by its licensees in the immediate future.”

Takeaway

Malta is revamping its gaming legal framework to bolster its standing as a premiere gaming hub in the world.
