Canadian online gambling operator Amaya Gaming has decided to turn over a new leaf as it assumes a new corporate identity as The Stars Group Inc.

In its last annual meeting last Wednesday, shareholders has approved the company’s plan to rebrand its operations to reflect the dominance of its PokerStars brand. Amaya CEO Rafi Ashkenazi was quoted as saying that the rebranding was not to disassociate the company from its former CEO David Baazov.

Baazov is awaiting a November trial on criminal charges of insider trading related to Amaya’s 2014 acquisition of PokerStars parent company, the Rational Group.

During the said meeting, the shareholders approved Amaya’s plan to relocate to Toronto to “more effectively manage its business and affairs.” Also, Ashkenazi said Amaya’s chief operating officer Guy Templar was currently negotiating with an unidentified licensed Indian operator regarding a potential tie-up that Amaya hopes to conclude later this year.

Amaya is ready to leave its tumultuous years behind by adopting a new brand identity and moving to a new location.
