  Good for Scott!

The Story

Absolute Poker co-founder Scott Tom has struck a deal with US prosecutors which will lead to the resolution of the outstanding criminal charges filed against him in 2011.

Let’s hear about the details of the deal.

Last May 31, Tom agreed to plead guilty to a single misdemeanor count of being an accessory after the fact to the transmission of wagering information. He will be sentenced on September 28, 2017 and will face a two-year maximum jail time for violating Title 18, US Code Section 1084.

What was Tom’s trade-off in order to get the deal?

As part of pleading guilty to the single misdemeanor count, Tom waived his right to a jury trial and consented to proceed to trial, judgment and sentencing. He also acceded to forfeit “any and all property” derived from the commission of his illegal activity.

It has been six years since Tom was indicted.

He only returned to the US last February to face the multiple felony charges of illegal gambling and conspiracy to commit money laundering filed against him in connection with the 2011 Black Friday indictments of three online poker sites: Absolute Poker, Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars. Absolute Poker and Full Tilt Poker collapsed after US officials seized their accounts and after it was revealed that the two companies do not have enough money to pay their patrons.

What happened to the other individuals indicted on Black Friday?

Save for PokerStars founder Isai Scheinberg, the ten other individuals who were indicted on Black Friday have already resolved their legal differences with the DOJ.

Takeaway

Tom finally decides to face the music and is rewarded with good news.
