Week 28 of the English Premier League sees Man City beat Arsenal for the second time in a week, this time extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to 16-points.
The Beast from the East cast its spell on the Emirates Stadium last night. But surely, the weather wasn’t the only reason for the vast masses of empty seats as Man City gave Arsenal their second three goal thumping in five days.
A lot has been said about Arséne Wenger’s tenure at the club. Yes, the Frenchman’s legacy is slowly being peeled away from the Arsenal archives, but sometimes you have to hold your hands up and admit the other side is far superior.
It is unacceptable that Arsenal lie 30-points adrift of City, and ten points away from a Champions League place, but there can be no shame is losing to a side that beats everyone it faces (with the exception of Wigan for some ungodly reason).
The game was all over as a spectacle within 33-minutes thanks to the brilliance of Leroy Sané. The 22-year-old put on his skates, and slalomed down the left flank before setting up Bernardo Silva to scored a spectacular curler in the 15th minute.
The German superstar was at it again in the 28th minute, this time setting up Sergio Aguero to set up David Silva to become the third ‘David’ to score a Premier League goal on St Davids Day.
And Sane made it five assists/goals in four games in the 33rd minute when he got on the end of a lovely move between Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, to score his eighth Premier League goal of the season.
City has now scored 82 goals, more than the entirety of last season. Only Paris St Germain has scored more across the Big Five European Leagues (84). It was Pep Guardiola’s 69th win in his first 100-games in charge it what’s turning out to be a memorable season. Remarkably, his stats in those first 100 games are worse than his tenures at Barcelona and Bayern Munich where he won more, lost less and scored more.
“These are the last steps to becoming champions,” Pep Guardiola.
If City win their next five games, arch-rivals United will have to give them a guard of honour when the two sides meet at Old Trafford on 7 April.
