The popularity of PokerStars Spin & Go games has led to the introduction of a new $100 buy-in and Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino lose dealer court case.
Two little bite marks of poker news to catch up on.
The first comes from the land of the largest online poker room in the world. Winamax may have created the idea of the lottery style sit-and-go format, but it’s PokerStars who have taken the games Supernova.
Over 7.3 million Spin & Go games were played in the first 10-days when the games were unveiled to the general public for the first time in Oct 2014. In those virginal days the only buy-ins on offer were $1, $3, $7, $15 and $30. That was later extended to $60, and that ceiling was been lifted to $100 late last week.
The new $100 buy-in level means punters can now win a $300k jackpot in the same amount of time it would take you to make a cup of tea.
The Spin & Go format was introduced to the PokerStars community under a wave of protest from the grinders who complained that the lottery style games were dragging recreational players away from their nets.
The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Pays Dealers $100,000 After Losing Overtime Court Case
The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino has lost an employment class action lawsuit involving 66 poker dealers. According to Courthouse News Service and Cardplayer Lead plaintiff for the poker dealers, Judith Smith, sued the casino back in Nov 2014, over unpaid overtime for attending team meetings, and picking up/dropping off uniform.
The case was later switched to Federal Court and last week U.S. District Judge Andrew Gordon laid the hammer down in favor of the dealers. The casino was forced to hand $70,000 to the dealers, $5k to Smith and a further $25k in attorney fees and costs.
The poker room hosts three daily No-Limit Hold’em (NLHE) tournaments at 10am, 3pm & 10pm, as well as offering a wide variety of cash games in their 10-table establishment.
