As far as best friends go, there can’t be a happier brethren than Matt Perrins and Jake Cody. The latter took poker’s Triple Crown on Saturday after an unprecedented 18 months of hustling. His best friend Perrins joins him in World Series of Poker (WSOP) folklore after taking down event #9 at this year’s poker jamboree. It’s reported that the winner had stumbled upon 2-7 Draw Lowball on YouTube whilst having an afternoon on YouPorn. Those YouTube videos earned him a sum to the tune of $102,105 and some new bling. It sure looks like this could be a year for dem Brits!
Amir Lehavot was another player to earn his first WSOP bracelet as he took on event #7 and the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship. The field featured many heavyweights of the world poker circuit including Jennifer Tilly, Mike Matusow and Toby Lewis. None were a match for the play of the Floridian. The final man that Lehavot eliminated was Jarred Solomon who went home with a tidy $354,460. It was nothing on the winner’s $573,456…oh and the gold bracelet of course.
Late Sunday saw a man from the home of Nike take event #6 by the horns and bring home the gold for Oregon. Harrison Wilder won the Limit Hold’em event and with it $205,065. Those of you thinking, “who the hell is this guy” would be right to ask questions. That’s to take nothing away from his stellar performance here. It’s just that he’s never really been up there on any other live poker date. The 29-year-old celebrated his victory in the most humbling of ways – with his parents. Just think how good he could be if mama lets him off the reigns!?
