The year is barely a month in and already, partypoker are taking poker players away to one of the many far flung corners of their famous MILLIONS tour. This time around, its Uruguay, which hosts the MILLIONS South America festival and with plenty to look at, a full schedule will take up much of partypoker players’ time if they want to become a winner at the felt.

partypoker-heads-to-uruguay-for-millions-south-americaAs partypoker recently revealed, the full schedule of 15 events makes up what should be a mouthwatering stop in the tourist hotspot of Punta del Este in Uruguay, South America. There’s something for everyone, too, from a huge $25,000+500 Super High Roller right down to the $220 Bounty and turbo events that will keep locals happy.

The highlight of every festival is its Main Event, however, and with the Main Event costing $10,300 to play and having a $5 million guarantee, it is sure to get plenty of takers. There is also – a little oddly – a labelled High Roller event which costs the same as the Main Event but acts as something of a rescue operation for those already stuck by Event #10 when the $500,000-guaranteed tournament takes place.

Most of the action kicks off this week, with the plot thickening from today, with the Mini Main Event rolling into Day 3, the Main Event Day 1a just a day away and therefore satellites to that running at full pace. The Super High Roller also gets going today too, so another chance to stake their claim as the richest player this year will be available for players to scrap for. The high roller scene in general is well catered for at all partypoker events, and that is a sure sign of growth from previous years when the runners for such events have been elsewhere. With both partypoker’s MILLIONS tour and Poker Central’s ‘Open’ Championships attracting a lot of entries from the high roller set, there’s sure to be more headlines created by the big winners in Uruguay.

Uruguay itself may end being the star of the show, with stunning beaches, beautiful scenery and tourist attractions just a stone’s throw from the Punta del Este resort where the Casino itself resides, offering a ‘Vegas-like’ experience.

With a largely summer-based tourism industry, it will be interesting to see how Punta del Este matches up for players looking for a fun time to accompany their stay at the felt. Popular with celebrities looking for a getaway and who enjoy a gated community feel, the uber-rich are the main tourist trade outside of the months offering sun, sea and sand between your toes.

The nickname for Punta del Este is ‘the Monaco of South America’ and with a small population of just under 10,000 outside of the sun-kissed months, poker will be a welcome attraction to the community. Last year’s MILLIONS South America took place in the bustling city with a reputation for crime and carnivals, Rio de Janeiro.

This year’s MILLIONS South America is sure to be a success at the felt, and player feedback on the resort itself will likely determine where the flagship tournament for partypoker ends up next year. With a growing South American poker community at partypoker both live and online, including stars such as partypoker Team Pro Joao Simao, we can’t wait to see how it all goes down in Punta del Este this February.
